Canberra is the capital city of Australia and is actually founded by the federation of the colonies of Australia. Located at the northern portion of the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) and at the tip of the Australian Alps or the country’s highest mountain range, it is the largest inland city and is the eighth overall largest city.
Unusual to all of the Australian cities, Canberra is a planned city. Its estimated population is around 430,000. Being inhabited by Indigenous Australians for 21,000 years, the city has seen the establishment of surviving landmarks such as the St John’s Angllican Church and Blundells Cottage.
Canberra is also home to many important institutions and monuments of the federal government as it is the seat of the government of Australia. Among these famous historical places and monuments are the Parliament House, Government House, the High Court, and the headquarters of various government agencies. It is also home to many institutions such as the Australian War Memorial, the Australian National University, the Royal Australian Mint, the National Museum, and the National Library. From its historical significance and abundant resources, Canberra really is worthy to be ranked among the world’s best cities to live and visit.
